These techniques are applicable to the analog components of the player and to the mixed signal components of the player.
One is much better advised tweaking one's DAC or putting some kind of isolation box such as a reclocker between the computer and the DAC, before going and crippling the computer based on theories created by people who are clueless as to what they are doing. (Which includes virtually all of us, myself included, when it comes to closed source operating systems such as Windows.)
Most of the various theories are mutually inconsistent and incompatible. One is not "optimizing" one is making a random walk and it's not far from searching for one's car keys under the street light rather than where they were dropped.
This is just a plea for sanity before they haul me away. :-)
