You're correct that with rare exception women couldn't own property in the 19th century. Furthermore, women were the equivalent of slaves themselves long after the Civil War and for the most part their opinions carried very little weight until the sufferage movement gained steam. So, how does taking away a woman's right to the ownership of her own body in the 21st century an improvement over 19th century slavery?
