I'm over in Claremont. Met you a few years back at the DSOTM shootout.
I have had my M60's and Mp3 for a number of years. Usually configured with Coincident Super Eclipse speakers. My present situation is dictated because I had to move equipment into a much smaller room; will be moving everything back when done digitizing a few hundred LPs. So the changes I make to amps or preamp are temporary only.
Been running the balanced output from the MP3 directly into my Hilo balanced input and then using the Hilo's monitor volume control to send output to the amps. Having finer granularity on the MP3 volume control will give me greater precision in setting recording levels. Being able to lower the amps gain will simply allow me a better gain structure for playback.
