Have you given any thought as to the possible location of the MV1 device?

If I had to guess, I'd say it was thermally coupled to the output tubes.. to act as a temperature-dependent bias current regulator. It makes more sense than simply acting as a time delay to cut down the bias current after some predetermined length of time.
