In my experience, the sonics are more brand-dependent than they are numerical designation dependent. In other words, a KenRad VT231 will sound pretty much like a KenRad 6SN7GT. And an RCA 5692 red base will sound like an RCA 6SN7GT, whereas all KenRads tend to sound different from all RCAs. This one linestage tube in my preamp is the first microphonic KenRad I've had, and it happened after several years of service. So my experience of KenRads is different from yours.
