I finished my OTL beasts about 3 months ago. I had a good time putting them together. It was a lot of work. I did make them cleaner than bruce,s
pictures. They do run ok with half of the output tubes installed (i do find them a little less open without all the outputs)but then you have a lot less heat. Now the bad part!! I have had a breakdown, one night i went to sleep listening to my Alon v,s and beast,s when i woke up the left monoblock had blown the main fuse (about 150 hrs of use) so i replaced it. when I turned it on, one half of the OTL bridge output plates were red it acted like a short. I opened up the bottom to find the problem. I found that c17 coupling cap has been hot and in a destruckt mode also c19,20,21,22,12 lytics have puffed up like they have had to much voltage applyed or have also gotten hot. I talked to bruce
he accused me of installing the caps backwards. That sort of pissed me off because i have been a AC power supply tech for 25 years and do not install clearly marked electrolytics IN Backwards. I think the reason the music coupling cap has destructed is because of rf oscillation also back into the drive tubes. Or it was created there in the drive.I also looked at the right monbloc it also shows the same pattern of failure but did not blow up yet . I think a design problem exists. Please help if you can
