Hi all...
This is a newbie question. Please don't answer "use your ears"! I am happy with my amp, but I like to speculate about my future moves.
I bought a lovely second-hand S-30 MK II last summer, and I am one happy music lover now.
It is matched with a Micromega Stage 4 CD player (output 2 V) and with high-efficiency speakers...
I had to stretch a bit to buy the amp, so when I was looking for a pre-amp, I went for the best cost/quality I thought I could get: a passive pre-amp.
Now, since the input sensitivity of the S30 is around 2.8 V, and I have an output of 2.0 V on my digital source, with no gain on the pre-amp... my question is: what do i lose? Is it just a loss of volume (i have plenty to my ears) or is there another sound degradation that automatically goes with those (apparently) mis-matched specs?
Thanks for telling me the basics of it...
