Small OTLs have always been the thing that is most intriguing and the hardest to do. If you are really serious about it, the thing to do is to also work to create a speaker that has a fairly high impedance or get one that already is high, like the ZU special Definition, which is 30 ohms.

We've built some experimental speakers that were 64 ohms, by putting 4 full-range 16 ohm driver in series. They work quite well, and then you can run an OTL with only 2 6AS7Gs per channel, or a single pair of 6C33s, and do quite well without NFB. If you are willing to work with line source arrays, there a quite a few possibilities for even smaller OTLs!

Its unrealistic to expect such an amp to drive a 4 ohm Magnaplanar, its all about equipment matching.
