I would be interested to hear your experiences comparing the 7241 to the 7242. I have a bunch of 7241s that I collected in order to convert my Atma-sphere MA240s from the 6C33C to the 7241. But I have just enough for one tube-ing of my amps (12 tubes), and I am loathe to do the conversion without a healthy supply of extra 7241s on hand. Then a noted tube dealer tried to convince me that the 7241 is not a good choice for this application, because it has two (or three?) plates subserving one cathode. He maintained that current hogging is always a problem internally with these tubes, where one plate is running very hot and the others correspondingly low on current, so that failure is a frequent occurrence. He was trying to sell me a bunch of 7242s at the time, which I nevertheless declined to purchase, because the price was ca $200 per tube (and I need at least 16 or 20).
