Re: Why OTL?

Well, I have heard 4 OTL's. Mine, a Transcendent Sound T8 stereo-25 w/c amplifier, a Fourier, Atma Sphere M60's and M1-s. The only one I have heard in my system is mine, but the other 3 I have heard in my local A-S dealer with the same speakers. They all have a common signature: very clear sound, lightning fast transients, an expansive layered soundstage that some might perceive as recessed but with all details present because they give a different perspective than the upfront one given by traditional tubes.
Some had more bass control than others. The Atma's might sound a litte bit more refined and kind of ethereal compared to the T8 but I could venture to say that the TS-T8 had more bass control compared to the others (at least with the CD's I used). Being tubes, their sound is also smooth and sweet at the same time. Some say that their sound is a cross between SS and traditional tubes. Some say that their sound is clinical compared to traditional tubes. Take your pick. I like them a lot and I might experiment with a different model/make in the near future.
