You can operate the MP-1 phono section with RCA inputs. You will not lose any gain, but you will lose the noise rejection characteristics of the cable (*not* the preamp).Adaptors can be convenient for this purpose. I would set up the tonearm cable with XLRs, and then adapt to RCA as your needs require.
OR- the MP-1 can be set up with either input.
There are a variety of techniques for using the MP-1 with single-ended power amplifier inputs. The simplest method is to connect pin 1 of the XLR to pin 3, using pin 2 as the hot output. This works quite well with single-ended triode amplifiers in particular. If you are using a subwoofer with a single-ended input then I have different recommendations, depending on the subwoofer.
