1.6 xover inductor: sledgehammer vs north creek

212.122.97.20

i've been listening to the north creek inductors
for a few days and i've found that the differences between them
and my former madison sledgehammers are minor: maybe some
more clarity in the bass lines, some less boominess
in very boomy recordings (esp. jazz), and perhaps
a somewhat better integration between my maggies and
my rel strata III; in return, it seems to me that
some visceral impact is now gone, maybe due to
the difference in DCR (0.19 vs 0.33 ohms)

the north creeks are very nicely built and fit
well within the limited space available (i still
prefer internal xovers), despite their gauge, weight
and size, as they are air core (see page below for more details); yet they
are much more expensive ($12 vs $41 each) and not so
convenient to install

anyway, my 1.6 are sounding great with my present
xover configuration (22uF auricap for tweeters,
25uF ansar for shunt, 3.5mH, 12ga north creek inductor,
15ga solid copper, enameled for tweeters, 12ga
for woofers)

best, paco
