I'm rebuilding my 211 SETs to bring them up to commercial cosmetic standards. The changes will include a pair of new chassis and lots of one-off trim pieces that I'm milling myself. One goal is to have absolutely no hardware like screw heads showing on either the front panels or top plates. In this regard, the FS-100 OPTs present something of a challenge.
The bolts holding the FS-100s together are a sort of dull, brass-mustard color. This looks really out of place, and I'm wondering if these bolts can be removed for painting. Would there be any danger to the mechanical transformer alignments if these were removed two at a time (diagonals)? Also, is there a way to keep the transformers from scratching the chassis and marring the paint around the mounting feet? Would it be useful to fit something like fishpaper under the feet, or is metal-to-metal contact required in order to secure these heavy transformers? Finally, has anyone here designed trim hardware to cover large transformer feet like these?
Any thoughts or advice will be appreciated.
