Hi folks:NOS VINTAGE HK XT-3 1:10 step up.
I have a small number of vintage (circa 1960's) Harman Kardon XT-3 microphone input transformers. These have a 500/600 ohm CT primary and a 50,000 ohm single ended secondary. They come in potted cylindrical cans--- look much like the Peerless 4722's--- so you can plug them into a tube socket.
I've actually had these for well over a year--- they got buried in my stash and I had just stumbled upon them recently again. With so much interest in moving coil step ups now seems like a good time to offer these for sale, clean out some space, and perhaps some of you guys will really enjoy these.
I did have a bunch of test bench stuff done on these by a friend when I first got them--- and they are wholly respectable on the bench--- it's a good design--- these were built by Freed. Another bud of mine has been using a pair for close to a year and he really likes them.
The biggest trick is going to be getting the sockets--- or finding an alternative way to use them--- these have the same pin circle diameter as an octal socket but have 9 pins instead of 8 pins. This socket has a center post with a keyway--- just like an octal socket.
I remember that when I first got these we did identify a source for this tube socket--- but given my poor memory the name escapes me now--- in any case, these sockets are still available surplus though a bit pricier than a standard octal tube socket. As an alternative you can (this is what my friend locally did) dispense with the socket and use a capacitor clamp and hard wire directly to the pins (which to his golden ears was the better way to go).
I spent some time this evening surfing the web for info on these XT-3's and found a few posts\entries\etc from guys using these--- they have all reported favorably on the sonics of the XT-3's and have compared them favorably to the "classics" such as the Peerless 4685, Peerless 4722, UTC designs, Triad designs, etc...
The units I have are fresh NOS in original boxes.
$125 a pair delivered in the US. Payment via Paypal or US POSTAL MONEY ORDERS.
