probably Gordon himself will reply to your mail with more suggestions but I am on the opinion that 8 or 12 W would not make a big difference so if you will look for a different amp have this in mind.

A grid choke would certainly make a difference according to the experiences of many people. Upgrades might also be nickel core transformers but, again, Wavelength can point you to more ideas.
