Hi folks. I'm new to this forum. I hope I'm posting this in the right place.
I had emailed Gordon at Wavelength before realizing this forums exists. Perhaps someone here can answer a couple of questions about possibly upgrading my Cardinals.
I noticed the Cardinals have been updated over time X1, X2 etc. I'm thinking the newer ones should sound a little better than mine which are 15 years old. Not that mine sound bad. I can probably live with them forever.
I'm wondering if there are some upgrades I could perform myself to improve the sound. From what I've read the new ones put out more power 12 watts vs 8 watts. I guess due to the grid choke on the 300B.
Can I just remove the grid resistor and put a choke in this particular circuit? Which one do I use. Is it a major job? ie would I have to change a lot of other components so the circuit will still work properly? Does this make the amp sound better or just increase the output power? I don't neccessarily need to increase the output power if there isn't some additional benefit..
Are there any other tweaks I can perform which will improve the sound quality?
Perhaps I'm better off selling the amps and finding some newer ones.
Sorry to ask so many questions.
Thanks, Larry
