C-core radiation pattern

Can anyone tell me what the typical magnetic radiation pattern of a C-core choke/transformer is? Is it along the axis of the coil, similar to an EI piece, or does the curvature of the irom make the pattern radiate circularly, similar to a toroid. Have a couple of pieces I want to use but not sure how to best orient them.
