Hi Rodney:
The DS-050 rocks with 45's :=)
Pinstriping is not an option---- as the addition of the nickel is
swamped by the presence of the airgap. So you don't realize any of the
benefits of the nickel in a conventional airgapped SE output trans.
And another practical reason for no nickel in the DS-025 and DS-050---
no one has the tooling to punch the EI-112 lam in nickel. Nada.
But the first is the real reason we don't and wouldn't normally offer
nickel in this family of outputs.
Silver--- I love silver magnet wire in transformers--- but, again, unfortunately we do not have the size necessary for the secondaries on the DS-050. And the cost to get in the wire (with minimum buy requirements) would be somewhere north of 5,000 bongo congos just for this one wire size.
Our "standard" DS=-050 is no slouch. If you looked at the goodies we put on the inside, the insulations we use, the wax impregnation, the kimber leads (or teflon lead wires), the solder used for internal connections, etc.... this is a really well evolved design that has withstood the test of time--- and works really well with especially the 45 tube.
