You also hear a lot of stuff about how noisy mercury rectifiers are. I haven’t tried tungars yet but I intend to for filament/field coil supplies. The old Motiograph, RCA and WE tungar field coil supplies remain in high demand to excite speakers and filaments. Given this is a high-efficiency horn crowd I expect tungar noise cannot be too objectionable. There also are new Japanese filament and field coil supplies designs using WE 4B27, 288As and other tungars. For me that is enough to give them a try at some point, especially since I like untamed mercury rectifiers.
