Those old tungar (tungsten-argon) bulb rectifiers were notorious noise generators, but when they were in vogue, radio and audio were not yet a major factor. THey did serve later on in some radio usage, with sufficient filtering and bypassing to tame them down to a dull roar.

For 6GM8s I'd use battery power (24 to 30V) to feed them, they are relatively light current sippers. Heck, go all the way and use batteries for the filaments, too. No hum / ripple / buzz problems to contend with. NiMH rechargeables are the way to go, unless you own LOTS of Duracell or Energizer Bunny stock shares ;-)
