Another method to reduce the primary voltage by a few volts is to connect one of the Keystone (or similar) NTC Thermistor, Inrush Current Limiters in series with the fuse & power switch on the "line" side of the primary circuit. This is especially helpful when using SS rectification, as it eliminates the power-on "slam". This isn't as slow a "warm-up" as a tube rectifier offers, but it still makes for a "soft" start.I use their CL-90 most oftem, it's a good match for amps up to about 35-40 watts total. These are available at Mouser and other suppliers.
