The "200" series Hammond PTs are basically operating while "skating on thin ice" ;-) With their 115VAC primaries, and todays over-120VAC line voltages, they run hot in more ways that one... And on a steel chassis, the stray magnetic field can make the whole chassis resonate at 60 Hz ;-(
The "300" series (example, use a 372FX instead of a 272FX) are better quality and more conservatively rated. They have dual, tapped primaries so they are universal in that they can be roperated on 100-120 / 220-240 VAC 50/60 Hz. They do cost more and may be physically larger.
Of course, trhe earlier suggestion of using an MQ power trannie is still the best ;-)
