Doc EE Smith wrote quite a few rather imaginative Sci-fi novles, mainly in 3 different series, those being..

The Lensmen series, the Family d'Alembert series, and the Skylark series.

All had humans in them with "super" minds or abilities, which might be why May and Geoff etc like to use the images.

But it is science fiction, just like May and Geoff's stuff ;-))
