What you're missing is the correction published on p. 524 of the July/August, 1981, issue of the JAES. Specifically, the second square root in Equation (36) should extend to over the -4.

Also, the Qtc in the numerator of the multiplier in Equation (29) should read Qtc^2. In the denominator of Equation (32), the square root should not extend to over the square bracket. Additionally, in the denominator on the first line of Equation (35), the square root should extend to over the -4Rat, and the square root in the demoninator on the second line of Equation (35) should also extend to over the -4.

The correction, which was included in a reply to a letter by Ed F. McClain, also contains additional comments on reactance annulling.
