I put some polar plots of two different OB woofer configurations on my website tonight. I thought some of you guys might be interested in checking them out. The files are numbered according to frequency. The geometries are shown in the geo.jpg file in each folder. The woofer dimensions I used are for a Lambda TD15M, but I don't imagine the exact shape of something with those dimensions matters too much at these frequencies - dimensions are in inches. Polar plots are in dB where the 45 level is the max, and the red lines show the -6dB points relative to the max level.Basically, I was looking at whether or not a U-baffle can really have a cardiod response. Looks to me like it really does not, at least for this geometry, although I did not include any damping in the baffle. Also note there's more output to the sides and rear at some frequencies. The H-baffle, on the other hand, was one geometry I tried that looked fairly decent - it stays pretty consistent through the range I would want to use it in (~50hz to 300hz).
I suppose my question then becomes 'do the differences in the polar response in these geometries make much of a difference in the sound in a regular size room, or is it more that it is an OB configuration?'.
