KSN1038

I doubt if anybody is really interested in this so I am going to try and be brief. The KSN1038 was a 2-1/2" paper cone piezo with the 0.125µF bender element, it had an easily removed plastic grill. The KSN1036 is the same thing, but may have a hard time with the metal screen. It might be better to leave it on and use a thin gasket. Anyway. All the horn tweeters use a 1-1/4" cone with either the 0.125µF bender element (4Khz models) or the 0.3µF bender element (2Khz models). Cubic inches=low frequency. Put the 2-1/2" piezo on a 4:1 rectangular throat. Made an 8HD sized horn. With a 1.5K 10W resistor in series with the piezo I could use it to ~700Hz. While I used a 70V transformer I do not recommend it as the voltage on the unused taps is too high for safety. The 0.625W tap on a 25V transformer is ~1K, thats close enough. I tried to get Motorola to make a compression driver with the 2-1/2" cone and the 0.3µF bender element. What they came up with was the KSN1086, a 2" cone with the 1.2µF bender element. And the KSN1142 with that stupid rod, although I got some samples without the rod. I made a few parts sets up for an inexpensive Heresy clone. After completing a set for his sister, my cabinet maker wanted a set for himself. He liked the sound better than his JBL pro drivers (including an 077/2405) in a similar sized box. They also measured flatter on the Ivie IE30 RTA. The only stress testing I did on these was to run 250V P-P program material (FM radio) for a whole weekend. This was so loud our ears made frying bacon sounds in the same room with it. After out return 48hrs later we figured it was OK for home use. I have cracked a few tweeters with a big amp, 240W into the primary and used for PA. The 48hr test was with 20W average, 40W peak into the primary.
