Got the SMSL SA50 two days ago.
Strangely, it's been much harder to set things up than with the regular, cheap integrated solid-state amps I've been using on the low pass until now.
It took me hours to find a satisfying integration of the low-pass on the SMSl with the high-pass on the Trends.
finally switched the polarity of the speaker cables out of the trends, and things integrate now better.
I suspect the previous amps were kinda boomy and had an artificial "glow", or blurring, wich made them easier to integrate subjectively.I also suspect the SMSl TDA chips might be inverting absolute phase (or maybe the Tripath chips in the trends?).
It really starts to sound good now, but what a pain! Here's a picture of the two midgets: smsl sa50 on the left (gold for the bling-bling appeal), modded Trends on the right :)
