i done with my KANGLING Horn, but i got no armchair.
at the end of a bass horn the flare rate is not important, better make it bigger as needed it is always to small.
look my ALPHORN for example.

i misunderstood you write about the DH SAT, sorry.
the DH SAT horns work up to ~400 Hz, downfire bad voices
direct = to much, indirect i think the best way, like the SCHALMEI SAT
