The 604-8G was great in its day. I used four of them when I designed some speakers for a disco nightclub in about 1979-81. Went there several years later, and they were gone! The place had been sold and converted into a dental practice! So, of course, I set out on a mission to find the nightclub owner and the speakers, to no avail. Poof, gone, couldn't find him. Bummer. In that same timeframe, I also installed four Electro-Voice Sentry III speakers in a jazz nightclub. Went back there a few years ago. Poof, gone. Now the place is a "church". Dang. But I digress.
The Altec 604 in its various incarnations was the workhorse monitor for many studio control rooms up to about the mid/late-70s, including the famous Producer's Workshop in Hollywood. And UREI used it in their landmark 811 and 813 monitors.
So, do NOT lose those 604s! But, dump/disconnect the piezo tweeters. WHAT were they thinking!?
