Define "great deep bass". And define "small".If you mean 25 Hz at 110 dB, that's one thing. But if you mean 35 Hz at 100 dB, that's quite another.
The laws of physics haven't changed much over the years. It's still about moving air, which, in a nutshell, means large diaphragm/small excursion or small diaphragm/large excursion. Take your pick.
