First order XO at ca. 10k and an L-pad (still using an adjustable one tuned to taste; need to convert to fixed resistors -- one of these days).

I think this combination works well.

I used to use Radio Shack 40-1375 planar tweeters (http://www.pimmlabs.com/web/40-1375.htm) with my Valencias, but I reckon that the aforementioned Fostexes would have worked very well, too.

The R/S planars sound very sweet and are cheap if a little hard to find (they were a knock-off or perhaps an OEM version of a well-respected JVC tweeter of the 1980s); they're not really quite sensitive enough for the Altecs (right on the edge in that respect).

I reckon there are other fine choices; I probably couldn't afford most of them, though.
