kinda free 2c on leaving the T-nuts be. I just assume the T-nuts will fail-me and install them that way anyway, but just put a backing-ring (glued) behind the T-nuts. Seems I put a few screws from the backing-ring into the baffle, too, so the T-nuts are sandwiched and well, just can't move.

That leaves some sort of thickness issues, maybe/not resolvable with targeted-selected router-application.
