Interesting, thanks for pointing this out Paul.
I also remember reading about bass reproduction. You can't hear most of the fundamental on the lower strings (especially if down-tuned). You hear an octave or so up and your brain fills in the rest. I really prefer the sound of an svt (tube)bass amp rather than a powerful ss bass amp (i'm a drummer from way back and in my youth I'm sure the cymbals wreaked my ears.)I did a quick search and found this article too.
