1. Human hearing is centered on the midrange. This is because that is the range of human speech . Looking at human voice, that range is about 100 Hz to about 1KHz. Second harmonics will double that to a high of 2Khz. That FR is normally the last to go as hearing deteriorates.
2. Remember that musically, octaves are doubling of the fundamental.
The upper frequency normally given is 20 Khz.One half of that, the next lower octave is 10 KHz. The next lower is 5 Khz.
While numerically looking at a wide range of numbers, octave wise the range is not as great as you would imagine.
On the other hand 20 Hz, the generally regarded as the lowest audible frequency, has as its next higher octave 40 Hz. The next octave is 80 Hz.
As you can see, a few Hz means really nothing at the upper end, but it means a not on the lower end.
