Home High Efficiency Speaker Asylum

Need speakers that can rock with just one watt? You found da place.

RE: A few Q's if you don't mind...

With 103 db/2.83 volts @4ohms, I'm using the R and L output of an Onkyo 818 AVR (SS of course). I will try the Pre Outs with an Adcom 555 or Bryston 4B to see if I hear any different. I used to have McIntosh, Marantz, HK Citation, Scott, etc. tube many years ago. Modern SS amps, especially the new Hypex are incredible. I like the sound of tubes, I just don't like the fuss.

I listen to between 80-85 db at my sweet spot, so the speakers rarely see 1 Watt. The subs, maybe 5W on music only. The system switches automatically from 7.2 to 2.2 from the Oppo 83 SE.

For subs, I have twin Danley DTS-10's in R and L corners but only one is running now. The are wedges designed to be arrayed side to side as 40H x 60V times two to make 80x60 dispersion. Since I only have one pair, I rotated then 90 degrees to get 60x40 pattern and put a spacer under the apex of the wedge. They are on large boxes with the tweeter apex (center) elevated to about 36 inches. They are about 12 feet apart and I sit about the same distance from them at the sweet spot. The top to bottom DYNAMICS are amazing, which I had before with my big horn stack, but now it's a more phase coherent point source in a smaller package with no sacrifice in perfomance.

I'll be using many heavily modified Klispch Heresy's with rear ports, better woofers , tweeters, and Xover upgrades for surrounds until I build some CBT XL's (met with Don Keele a few weeks ago, another good guy).
