Altec 290-4G - NOS

Hey inmates, I have an Altec 290-4G high output compression driver which I bought new in 1979. The plan was to build a prototype 3-way horn-loaded speaker, with it as the midrange. Well, it's still sitting in the box, unused and never connected.

I'm wondering if it's still usable, or if the diaphragm may have become stiff or brittle from non-use over the past 35 years.

Any insights? Thanks!
