The problem with a generic electronic crossover is it assumes very nice drivers. It can't correct for drivers, almost all of which have bad spots in their useable bandwidths. A custom crossover designed for the boxes and drivers can correct for much of these anomalies, whether it's active or passive, with the active corrected one the most desireable..
