I've used the DX-4 in the AFH and they sound fine. You don't want to damp a compression chamber. If you want to tame high-mids, use thin dense material; otherwise you might reduce the overall efficiency of the horn...

Personally, I did try thin compressed wool. It was OK but made for a mellower sound. If your amp is not prone to emphasize mids, I would suggest to leave the compression chamber as-is.
