I have had a pair of axiom 80s for a few years but not really used them.
I am now thinking about various ways of putting them into use.
When I first got them they were in very beaten up original spec cabinets but the aru's were missing. I listened to them briefly and found them fantastic from lower mids up and the lower registers despite being stepped down were very fast. I kind of recall the bass was reasonably extended but the whole lower range just seemed a (quite a)few db down on the rest of the range.
I have had axiom 201's (similar to 301 but lesser magnets)and they were not even remotely in the same league ... they sounded like mud in comparison to the axiom 80.
I was surprised you thought the axiom 80 so peaky as though it's been a while since I heard them, I don't recall the axiom 80 having the lowther peakiness (anyone more familiar with axiom 80 care to comment on this aspect?)that I am all too familiar with, having used pm7a's in voigt pipes for some years.
