That's correct, the 30" 20" short flare drops like a rock below about 160hz or so.
Imagine you cut the short flare out of an A7, and throated it for a 10 or 12, you might end up with something that looks like this:
One of the first experiments was a dual 12 with the horn the size of an
A4 flare:
It sounded fabulous, but was deemed too big (issues with sight-lines on smaller stages, etc). The A7 sized horn was deemed OK for size, and adequate when stacked in pairs for a 150hz crossover.
