Something got me to thinking about the EV Wolverine "full range" (extended range, shall we say) twincone drivers. There were (originally) three: the LS-8 (which had an AlNiCo magnet), the LS-12, and the LS-15. All three had morphologically similar three-legged cast baskets. The latter two had ceramic magnets.
At some point, the LS-12 was superceded (I suppose) by the LS-12A. The LS-12A had a four-legged cast basket (arguably a less esthetically pleasing design at that!). I know of no other difference in the 12A relative to the 12.
I have no ears-on time with an LS-12A (although, rather inexplicably, I think I have five LS-12s in the basement). My simple question -- does anyone know why EV "upgraded" the LS-12 (and only the LS-12) to the 12A?
If you don't know the answer, feel free to make one up. Extra pointes for creativity/originality!
Thanks!
all the best,
mrh
