IIRC, Wayne claims they are fine for smaller rooms and that this has been backed up by other users. The controlled directivity yet wide(ish) dispersion - not beaming - should ensure acceptable driver integration in your room. A wider than usual sweet spot is a bonus.
The bass is not deeply extended in the 4 Pis - Wayne likes an over-damped tuning - and should be fine in smaller rooms. It is a bonus that they are designed to work against walls and therefore do not take up much room space.
FWIW, I have a small room and will probably be going with 3 or 4 Pi Pros when the time comes.
