There quite a few discussions when I google "altec crossover N500". One that popped up, though, is a discussion on VOTTs over at AK:

There's also discussion of the Hiraga crossover at the link below.

I share all this to suggest that you leave your old crossovers as is and 1) use the existing knowledge via the web to build some improvements or 2) go active crossover.
