I know a lot of people including myself who use high efficiency pro audio woofers and midwoofers (not to mention compression drivers) in their cars.
And reguarding the amps...why not use a 4 ohm DVC sub and wire the coils in series? That gets you 8 ohms. And most home plate amps make most power at 4 ohms...so series the coils of a 2 ohm DVC sub. And with the EQ found on nearly all of those amps, you could boost the bottom end. Or, you could use a Linkwitz Transform and get a smaller enclosure with an even more extended bottom end.
Car subs are much more displacement ability than the domestic counter parts, require smaller enclosures, and cost less.
Dr. Edgar uses a car driver in the Siesmic Jr sub system...I know which one b/c I am sponsored by the manufacture of the drivers.
