i have been experimenting with the 420 for 2 years now ,to learn about these guys i have not heard the 415 and dont know how if the t/s are close
i made a open baffle using some old pine doors(my house is in perputal construction)while nice found them wanting in bass control
i have tried it on as a infinite baffle (wall mounted and the back in my wifes walk in closet maybe 200 c/ft)and was amazed at the bandwith the bass was awsome , i only used some tweeters crossed at 5 k that i stuck to the wall with duct tape, certianly a contender for home theater in infinite baffle
as for boxes and horns i put them in a 10 cft sealed box and tried small emilar and altec drivers in a tatrix seirra grand baby horn crossed at 4k with active crossovers ,
for somewhone who uses a full 4 way horn loaded system and a maniac about full range drivers i love this driver and will experiment more including putting them in 816 cabs sealing the ports and some horn on top
i cannot stress how important using active crossovers on altec drivers are they just go one step better in sound and musicallity
they are amazing drivers that need some room to breathe i also have a few of them and contemplating putting them in my vintage car as the trunk is 25 cft and the space behind the back seat is 18 in ,i do have to fix the engine and figure a way to put a tube amp in there
hope this helps
