Hey all
I've been keeping an eye out for some affordable drivers to try on my EV CD horns. Right now the horns are sitting on top of cornwalls with the k77 drivers fudged onto them. I have it biamped with a solid state amp on the lows and then my tube amp on the mids/highs. Simple first-order crossover at 900hz built into the front of each amp. I'd like find either a 1" or 1.5" exit driver that would cover the 500-17k range, so I can go without a tweeter.
Altec 288's are generally too expensive (and only go ~15khz), so they are out. JBL 2420's are at the upper end of my spending limit, but still a possibility. I've seen ev dh1506's pop up from time to time. Jammin jersey lists emilar's ech-175 as being able to go up to 17khz. Any others I've missed?
The emilar piqued my interest, but I haven't been able to find any data on it, or even its sensitivity.
What do you think I should try first?
