Hello datman, i've been throught the same PHY-HP break in period. I can tell you that it needs about 300hrs at least to loose up.
Once this acheived, as you said, your high power amp will be useless.
I've bought a 845 SET amp, and i raised my level of enjoyment, and stopped my upgraditis that most of us suffers......
I can also recommand that you select an amp with the 16 ohms tap output.
It makes a huge difference , even compared with a 8 ohms only high power tube amp (SF power 2).
The 16 ohms output will match better the PHY-HP's.
