Hey Robert,

You talk about running the 12" from 200hz to about 8khz. It is attractive to think about one driver running over a large range. But few and far between are drivers that can really do that and often they have a lot of peaks and dips (plus beaming) and require a lot of crossover work to sound right. I'd suggest you look at splitting up your octaves more equally. Typically a tweeter will handle more than a woofer. If you crossed at say 250hz (to the 12") 3 octaves would be 2hz for crossover to the tweeter.

Don't be afraid to try a cheap Marchand board for a low pass with a solid state amp to the Karlson. With coupling cap and cathode bypass cap sizing you can make a high pass within the SET. Or you could accomplish both in the preamp. Probably require a buffer on the low pass section.

Fred is right, bite the bullet and get a way to measure and model. If you have a proven design to work from you can fine tune by ear but if you are new and starting from scratch chances are you won't get close and waste more money on parts than a decent mike costs.
