using the standard first guess of 12 watts and V^2/R = P, you get about 110V... which is what voltage my field coil RCA compression drivers require...
so that should get you up and running...
watch the temperature... you should have no problems holding a finger on the coil... for safety's sake, do this when powered down...
efficiency should rise until you reach saturation... I have noted that a further increase usually helps the sound, but this is dependent on many, many factors, so just listen...
a variac is a very handy tool...
