Measuring with Rives & Rat Shack

Out of curiosity I decided to measure some of my wideband drivers to determine just how "hot" they really are on paper (they sound hot). I'm not going to name names to protect the possibly guilty.

Here's the thing: using the Rat Shack meeter and Rives test CD, I measured two different drivers (one in OB and one in a BLH) both up about 20 dB at 2.5 Khz relative to 1 Khz!

Now, they *do* sound like they have some extra energy in the presence band but not really like that.

Is this possibly an anomaly of

1) The CD
2) The meter
3) My room (is is very large, carpeted, and would not 'seem' bright)

Or one more of the above?

Or do these drivers REALLY measure like this??
